Dairy Goat Show Rules

  • All goats must be owned and under the care of the 4-H/FFA member by June 1, 2025.
  • Entries are limited to two goats per class per exhibitor. Premiums will be awarded accordingly to show results. Exhibitors may enter one animal only in the Home-Raised category. Please see General Rules for home-raised qualifications.
  • Animals must be in place by 10 am.
  • All dairy breeds will show together, registered or unregistered. Kinders used for dairy purposes show in the Dairy and Working goat show. Kinder market wethers show in the Meat Goat show. No percentage Boers allowed in breeding stock classes. Percentage Boer breeding stock will show under the Meat Goat show. Boer and percentage Boer goats are only allowed in obstacle course, harness goat and companion goat classes.
  • It is preferable that dairy goats be disbudded, dehorned or polled.
  • The base date for computing the age of the animal is July 15, 2025.
  • In accordance with Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Missouri State Fair health guidelines,  all goats (including wethers) must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) to be eligible to show. This health certificate must have been written within 30 days of exhibition. All goats must be identified with ear tag, tattoo, or microchip.
  • No milk out required, but the judge will discriminate against distended udders.
  • Animals must be free of contagious diseases, visible lesions, abscesses, or warts. Goats may be removed for health risks by the show superintendent.
  • Showmanship classes will be held for all dairy/working goat exhibitors. Animals should be show clipped as appropriate for breed/class. It is recommended that dairy and working goat exhibitors wear nice jeans or pants with a shirt that has a collar or white pants and white shirt with a collar. Long skirts are also acceptable.
  • Pee Wee Showmanship is a non-4-H sponsored activity (open to Clover Kids and others) for children ages 4-7 years old. Suitable animals will be provided for these children to use.
  • All exhibitors will be responsible for cleaning their pens and tack areas before they are released from fairgrounds. Exhibitors must have superintendent look at pens prior to leaving the fairgrounds.

Obstacle Course 
 
Fun costume class for goats and exhibitors: this is a fun class for goat exhibitors. Special fun prizes like Most Original, Scariest, Best Home Made, and Best Group will be awarded. Goat games will follow. May be pulling cart if over 1 year of age.

Ribbon color indicates the following premiums: Blue- $4.00 Red- $3.00 White- $2.00
