Online entries will be open until noon on Monday, July 14, 2025 and will incur a fee of $3.

Adult Community Arts Rules & Information

Entries are to be delivered to the Boone County Fairgrounds between 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Tuesday July 15, 2025.  

Tasting contests will start at 6:00 p.m. at Boone County Fairgrounds in the Coliseum. 

 1.       All amateur participants only. No professionals and no store front businesses. Professional bakers, caterers, certified chefs or individuals whose primary income results from their baking ability are not eligible. Craft show crafters will be accepted.

2.       Limit 10 entries per category. These will be on a first come, first served basis.  Once 10 entries are received, we will accept entries only as a waitlist for reserve items. 

3.       Limit one entry per participant in each category.

4.       The Fair will select the judges for the competition. The judges’ decision is final.

Categories:  

A.      Hand Crochet

1.       Doily

2.       Afghan

3.       Accessories, wearable

4.       Bedspread or table cloth

B.      Hand Knitting

1.       Shawl

2.       Socks

3.       Hats

4.       Gloves/mittens

5.       Sweaters

6.       Any other knitted household item

C.     Quilts

1.       Hand quilted/pieced

2.       Nursery

3.       Holidays

4.       Misc. Place mats/table runners, jackets, pillows etc.

D.     Jewelry

1.       Create jewelry based on a piece of art – Happy Circus – entrants will have artwork emailed to them for inspiration

2.       Jewelry based on the TV show, Downton Abbey

3.       Ugly necklace contest

E.      Recycled Items : TRASH TO TREASURE SHOW – use your imagination and create a piece of artwork made from all recycled/repurposed items – art piece can be no larger than 24” x 24” x 24”.  Please provide a list of creative items used to make your project.

F.       Foods

1.       Sourdough breads: The items must be naturally leavened with sourdough starter, without the addition of commercial yeast. Entries must be fresh the day of judging. One item/batch per entry. Must be home-made from scratch, no box mixes or frozen dough. Recipes must be submitted.

d.   Sourdough Dinner Rolls (4)

e.    Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls (4)

f.      Sourdough Cookies- any flavor (4)

g.    Any Other Sourdough Item

2.       Fruit Pies: Recipe must be original and not previously published. List all ingredients for both crust and filling in exact measurements and include preparation steps, pan size, temperature, and baking time. Pie must be baked in a standard 9 inch, round aluminum pie pan. Pastry pie crust and dessert filling of your choice must be homemade; no pre-manufactured crust or filling is permitted. All soft pies must have a pastry (homemade) crust for bottom. Top can be anything to garnish. Fruit pies must have top and bottom pastry crust.

3.       Charcuterie Board contest: Build your own Charcuterie Board!

a.       Food items must be pre-cut prior to the start of the contest.

b.       Bring your own board. Boards must be size 10×10 or smaller.

c.       Food items to be included: 3 cheeses, 3 meats, 3 starches and 3 accompaniment items.

d.       Must include a 3×5 note card indicating all components, incuding the type of product, the weight for the meat and cheese and if purchased the item or homemade.

e.       Boards will be judged presentation/appearance (70%) and originality (30%).

4.       Gourmet Mac N Cheese

a.       Bring your best gourmet Macaroni and Cheese recipe. No boxes or store bought.

b.       The recipe cannot contain any form of processed cheese.

c.       Dish must be ready to serve and brought to the Coliseum on July 15, prior to the contest.

d.       Recipes will be judged on texture/consistency (40%), flavor (40%), and appearance (20%).

e.       Recipe, name, address and phone number must be printed on the recipe form and submitted with the entry.

5.       Salsa (fresh and canned): Salsa must be homemade; not store or restaurant bought. Salsa must be made from scratch (using fresh ingredients or professionally canned items). All ingredients in the salsa must be edible.

Photo Release: In consideration of my participation in the Boone County Fair Adult Arts Contest, I hereby grant permission to Boone County Fair volunteers/staff to utilize my appearance, performance or voice in any manner and media for the purpose of promotion, reporting or publication. I understand that no royalty, fee, or any other compensation of any kind shall become payable to me by reason of such release and use of any photograph.
